Have You Seen it From Above?

The oil spill in the Gulf has a lot of people worried. I'm not going to add to that by repeating our concerns. Instead, I invite you to consider a higher perspective.

We have known since the 1970's that it was time to switch from oil to renewable sources of energy. The problem is that requires a major shift - and change is difficult. Usually, we don't want to do it! We put it off. Again, and again, and again... but that's okay, because the opportunity for change doesn't go away. It just keeps growing! Eventually, what needs to happen always does. One way or another. If we don't learn our lessons the easy way, then we have to learn them the hard way. If we don't learn our lessons the hard way, then we have to learn them the HARDER way. What is ours to learn will be taught. Eventually we shall surrender to what was inevitable all along. The oil spill in the Gulf is one gigantic wake-up call. Look at it that way and consider it good news.

The spill is just one more part of the grand Divine Plan now unfolding. All our old power systems, based upon greed and fear, are falling away around the globe. At the moment, it's painful. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it takes a good deal of pain to dislodge us from the familiar.

If and when the spill crosses your mind, keep it elevated in your consciousness. See it as an agent for much-needed, positive CHANGE. Hold the power of GOOD in your mind. Think of all the people who are finally - really - waking up to the need for releasing our dependence on oil. Think of the bonds that will form when hundreds of people answer the call to action, coming out to mop up.

We have a mess in the Gulf... It heralds a sustainable future!

Keep it clean.

All is well.

  1. I couldn't agree more with this perspective! I didn't expect it to get this bad and I almost cry whenever I hear about the damage to the gulf, the marine life and surrounding environment, but when I first heard about the spill I thought "Good, at least now the Florida legislature and President Obama won't be in such a hurry to allow drilling closer to our shores." It's an issue that keeps coming up even though it's obviously a huge danger to our environment and economic future. The threat to tourism and the fishing industry is obvious to people like me, but to politicians and the oil industry it's just another opportunity to make money for themselves and retain power. I keep reminding myself of the fact that this could be Florida beaches getting the worst from a spill like this some day and I truly hope the lesson is learned and a real push towards the use of alternative fuels becomes reality sooner rather than later. I'm disappointed that President Obama isn't pushing that message harder.

  2. An excellent perspective! I agree the disaster in the Gulf is a wake up call. But I would offer an additional thought to keep in our consciousness. This disaster is indeed a wake up call for ALL of us. This is an opportunity not to place blame or point fingers, but to realize our own deep dependence on non-renewable sources of energy. A paradigm shift is needed, in the way that we live our lives and in the expectations we hold to maintain our comfortable lifestyles. We need to take some responsibility here, bringing awareness and change to the choices we make about our food sources, transportation, clothing...all of the choices we make on a daily basis have an impact on the environment around us. Let us take this opportunity to make a commitment to shift our lifestyles to be further in line with our values, and in line with a truly sustainable way of life.
